So I have an offer pending for a house in Hayward. I'm hoping to learn to love Hayward as it's the only place in the East Bay I can afford to live. Then again, it's Hayward. So try as I may, I should just be happy that at some point, I'll own a home, and does it matter much where it is? Okay, wait, maybe it does. But dammit, I'll own a home!
I was on this dating website, and this lame guy was asking me what football team I liked. I told him The Raiders and thanked him for not holding it against me. Then I went on to tell him that I recently had to stop wearing the black and silver facepaint as my boss deemed it distracting at work. I also told him that I only wore a skull on each shoulder and an eyepatch on Sundays. He believed me. Ummm....I think the number of available men who can take a joke, let alone comprehend sarcasm is growing smaller by the minute. I may end up with a guy that can't make me laugh, or a guy that is serious 24 hours a day. Alright, now I'm just getting depressed.
The Oscar nominations came out today. The show is going to be hosted by Hugh Jackman. I'm a little disappointed by that one. How did we go from Billy Crystal to Hugh Jackman. I hope the writers do a good job if it's intended to be humorous. This is a weird mix of nominations this year. I'm pulling for "Milk", but "Benjamin Button" may take the lead, and Mickey Rourke may get the lead acting award...mostly just because he's been away from being a lead actor for 14 years. Don't get me wrong, "The Wrestler" was a pretty good flick, but it was especially good because we are all in awe of Rourke's comeback and that he looks like that headhunter guy "Dog" something or other. Or maybe it's something or other and "Dog". Anywho, he looks like a worn piece of leather, and not in a sexy Brad Pitt, rugged around the eyes kind of a way either.
My Mom has had the flu for about 4 weeks, since she visited me in December. I know I gave her the flu and when she was here, I told her no hugs or kisses. I don't want my Mommy to get sick. She was like "Nonsense, I won't get sick." So I called her today, she sounded awful. I said "Mommy, I got you sick, I'm sorry". She laughed and said "Baby, you didn't get me sick so don't worry about it." It's so sweet that she still thinks I can do no wrong. She tells everyone I'm an angel. So...yes, my halo is invisible. It is so! My Mom says so!
Fabness from Season 3 of the office....
Michael Scott: "I'm not superstitious, I'm just a little stitious." I heart this show.
Oh, and Jim and Pam are the cutest fictitional pseudo couple ever!

What I learned from "The Office"
I just got hooked on the show "The Office". And I mean just hooked, as I saw my first few episodes today. Yay Netflix and their "Play Instantly" feature. What I learned today on the show..."We shouldn't be afraid of grief. Grief can sometimes be good grief. Just ask Charlie Brown."
Ah, wisdom.
Ah, wisdom.

Saving face?
It's interesting how much pride can get us all in trouble. We don't want to admit when we get hurt so we pretend that we're fine. We don't want to be the first ones to admit when we're wrong. People go as far as to lie, hurt each other with piercing words and turn their backs on their hearts, just to avoid getting hurt first. And even then, it's the fear of the possibility of getting hurt. So instead of taking a chance and being honest, they sabotage everything...just in case.
Pride can be a great thing. But it also has the power to destroy the best things in life if it's abused. Besides, sometimes people see right through that thick shield of sarcasm through to the very lie you're telling.
Anyways, I was daydreaming of someone I know who speaks before they think. I have a feeling he's going to be surrounded by regret the rest of his life. All in the name of pride. Should be a life lesson learned, but some people never pay attention to past mistakes.

Let's start with January...
I'm prepping for the Oscars and so far, my fave movie is "Milk". But I'll also recommend "Revolutionary Road", "Slumdog Millionaire", "The Reader" and "Frost Nixon". I've learned that I'm obsessed with movies dealing with journalism. I enjoy researching and used to do news radio in Alaska when I was 20. I took a lot of journalism in high school and college. Apparently when I was in Junior High I wanted to be the editor of Rolling Stone Magazine. Movies I love with the theme are "The Insider", "The Paper", "All The President's Men", "Up Close and Personal", "Network", "Shattered Glass" and I'm sure there are 100 more.
I also realize that I want to do so many things career-wise, that I end up doing nothing. Here's the short list: -Own my own casting agency -Screenwriting -Producing -Become an On Air Personality -Songwriter (possibly singer) -Own my own magazine (film) -Own my own Non-profit focusing on any of the following: -Helping children in foreign countries get their basic needs , especially in Africa (education, food, clothes, housing, sex education) -Environment (conservation, renewable resources, education, wildlife protection, setting a political agenda on sustainability) -Documentary filmmaking -Own and run a camp for kids -Detective I'm sure there's more, but those are the main things. Yeah, a tall order, where do I begin??
I just put an offer on a house the other day and should hear back tomorrow. It's in Hayward (Yuck!) but I'd own something and the value will go up. Now is CERTAINLY the time to buy, some properties are at half of what they were 3 years ago. It's nuts!
Still working at Rumsey and still believe in our company and it's aim to make zero energy buildings. I don't want to be here forever as I'm not an engineer, but atleast it's tied to a cause I believe in which is the environment and doing all we can to save it. BTW, Sam Rockwell needs to be cast in more films, he's a breath of fresh air each time I see him. What a talent and he owns the screen in his scenes. If you do nothing else...check out "Milk" in the theaters!! Don't wait to rent it, this is one for the big screen!
My favorite saying that I've ever received in a fortune cookie was "You can't move backwards into the future." Here's to 09' and all of it's unpredictability.
